Before-and-After Photos: Proof of Every Clean Trash Can
A clean trash can does not look much different from across the street. The customer usually is not home when the trailer comes. By the time they notice, the can has been sitting in the sun for a day. That makes bin cleaning one of the easiest services to doubt, and before-and-after photos one of the best tools you have.
Photos Belong to the Buttons
The three buttons that run each stop are covered in Start, Skip, Complete: The Three Buttons That Run a Bin Cleaning Route. Photos fit right into that rhythm. Take the before photo when you tap Start. Take the after photo just before you tap Complete.
Photos taken in the tech app are saved with the stop. The office does not have to ask a tech to dig through personal pictures, and the photos do not leave with the tech when they quit. The office can pull up any stop and see what the cans looked like on that day.
What Makes a Useful Before Photo
The before photo shows what the tech found. It does not need to be pretty. It needs to answer a few questions later:
- Which cans? Get all the cans on the plan in the frame, ideally with something that shows the house, like the garage door or mailbox.
- How dirty? One shot looking down into the open can shows what you are dealing with. That is the shot that sells the service.
- Anything wrong? A crack, a broken lid or a missing wheel should be in a photo before the tech touches the can. That protects you from “your crew broke my can.”
What Makes a Useful After Photo
The after photo proves the work. A good one shows:
- The inside of the cleaned can, from the same angle as the before shot.
- The cans set back where they belong, with something that ties them to the address.
- Lids left open to dry, if that is how your company finishes a stop.
Matching angles make the difference obvious. A before shot looking into a can full of grime next to an after shot of the same can, clean and wet, is hard to argue with.
Photos Settle “You Never Came”
The most common complaint in bin cleaning is some version of “nobody cleaned my cans.” Sometimes the customer checked the wrong can. Sometimes a family member rolled the cans back before the trailer came and the stop was skipped. Sometimes the customer just did not notice.
With photos on the stop, the office can answer in a minute. Pull up the stop, see the time it was completed, look at the after photo, and text it to the customer. Most of the time that ends the conversation. When the photo shows something was missed, you know right away and can send someone back. For more on handling those calls, see Answering a Bin Cleaning Complaint With What the Tech App Recorded.
Photos on Skips
Photos are just as useful when a stop cannot be done. A photo of a full can at 2pm shows the garbage truck had not come. A photo of an empty curb and a closed garage shows the cans were put away. A photo of a locked gate backs up a note about a bad code.
Those photos protect the tech and the company. A customer who is billed for a skipped stop will not be. A customer who is told “your cans were not out” can see it for themselves.
Photos Sell the Service
Before-and-after photos are the best marketing a bin cleaner has. With the customer's permission, the strongest pairs make good social posts, door hangers and website images. A neighbor who sees a disgusting can turned clean is a likely sign-up.
They help keep current customers too. A monthly customer who never sees the cleaning starts to wonder why they are paying. Sending the occasional after photo, or pointing them to it, reminds them the work is real.
Keep It Quick
Photos should not slow the route. Two or three per stop is plenty: one before, one after, and one more if something is unusual. A tech with wet gloves can take a photo with a knuckle tap, and the phone does not need to come out of the mount for long. Build it into the rhythm and it adds seconds, not minutes.
Proof That Lives With the Stop
Before-and-after photos turn “trust us” into “here it is.” They settle complaints, protect your techs, back up every skip and give you marketing for free. For more of what the tech app does at each stop, visit the TrashCanBossPro trash can cleaning app page.
