Turning One-Time Bin Customers Into Trash Can Cleaning Plan Subscribers

A one-time deep clean is a tryout. The customer is testing whether you show up, whether the cans really come out clean and whether it is worth paying for. If you pass, they are more ready to subscribe than any stranger who sees your yard sign. The trick is asking at the right moment, in the right way, before they forget about you.

Your Warmest Leads

Former subscribers, covered in Winning Back Cancelled Trash Can Cleaning Subscription Customers, are one source of easy plans. One-time customers are the other. They have already paid you, already seen your work and already given you their address and cans.

Every one-time job in your client list is a plan waiting to be offered. Most of them are never asked.

Sell the Plan Before the Clean

The first chance comes before the deep clean even happens. When a customer books a one-time cleaning, mention the plan in the same breath:

“A one-time deep clean is $60 for two cans. If you'd like us to keep them clean, our monthly plan is $35 and we'll knock $20 off the deep clean.”

Some customers will take it right away. Many will not, and that is fine. You have planted the idea. The example prices are just that; use your own. For more on how the two products differ, see One-Time Deep Cleans vs Subscription Plans for Trash Can Cleaning.

Let the After Photo Do the Selling

The most persuasive thing you have is the before and after photo pair. The tech takes them in the tech app and they stay with the completed job. A crusty, stained can next to one that looks brand new does more selling than anything you could write.

Send the photos to the customer the same day with a short note from the office:

“Here's how your cans came out today. If you want them to stay this way, we can add you to our monthly route on your Tuesday trash day.”

Two-way texting means the reply comes straight back to you, and a “yes” can become a plan the same afternoon.

Follow Up When the Smell Comes Back

If they do not say yes right away, follow up later. The best moment is three to five weeks after the clean, when the cans start to smell again and the customer remembers how nice they were. A simple text works:

“It's been about a month since we cleaned your cans. Want us to come back? We're on your street next Tuesday.”

Keep track of who you have followed up with. A tag like “One-Time” on these clients makes it easy to pull a list each week of customers whose deep clean was about a month ago.

Make Signing Up Fast

When the customer says yes, do not make them fill out a long form or call back. A few fast paths:

If the card from the deep clean is still on file, you may not need anything else from the customer at all. Customers can also sign up for services and see pricing in the customer app.

Start the Plan on the Right Day

Once the plan is added, the address goes on the Waiting List. Set the recurring service to 28 days for monthly, 14 for every-other-week or 7 for weekly. Schedule the first plan cleaning on their trash day, roughly one plan cycle after the deep clean. If the deep clean was a while ago, put them on the very next route on their trash day. From that first completed plan cleaning on, the address comes due again on its own.

Train the Crew to Help

Your techs see things the office never will. A tech who notices a homeowner watching the cleaning can mention the monthly plan in one sentence and point them to the office. A tech who sees a neighbor's cans in rough shape can leave a note in the job so the office knows the street has interest. Give your crew a simple line to say and a reason to care, and one-time jobs start turning into plans from the curb.

Ask Every One-Time Customer

Mention the plan at booking, send the after photo, follow up when the smell returns and make signing up quick. For more on recurring plans, visit the trash can cleaning subscription software page.
